<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Flying with a food allergy can feel stressful, especially when you are relying on an airline, airport staff and complete strangers to help keep your child safe. That is why it is important to know about airline accommodations for flying with an allergy so you can plan the safest trip possible.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The good news is that many airlines do offer support for passengers travelling with food allergies, but what is available varies a lot depending on the airline, route and type of allergy.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines will allow pre-boarding so you can clean your seat area, some may make onboard announcements, and others may offer allergy-friendly meal options. However, very few airlines can guarantee a completely allergen-free flight.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.instagram.com/autismfamilytravelguide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Autism Family Travel Guide Instagram</a></p>
</details>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Knowing what you can ask for before you travel makes a huge difference.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you need help navigating the airport safely when you travel you can also book airport special assistance, and my guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/disability-getting-help-at-the-airport/" data-type="post" data-id="1528">getting help at the airport</a> explains what this is and how to book it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quick Wins About Accommodations For Flying With an Allergy</h2>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Bring your own safe food and snacks</mark></strong> especially for longer flights</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Do not rely on airline meals</mark></strong> being allergen-safe</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Ask cabin crew about onboard allergen policies</mark></strong></li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Request buffer seating</mark></strong> if available</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Bring a doctor’s letter if carrying medication</mark></strong></li>

<li class="">Board with confidence and<strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color"> advocate clearly</mark></strong></li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Airlines Provide Allergy Accommodations?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes. Many airlines can provide accommodation for flying with an allergy but the type of support they offer can vary. There is no standard for those flying with allergies.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Common accommodations may include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">pre-boarding for cleaning</li>

<li class="">special meals</li>

<li class="">nut-free meal requests (on some airlines)</li>

<li class="">cabin crew awareness</li>

<li class="">announcements to nearby passengers</li>

<li class="">requests to avoid opening certain allergens nearby</li>

<li class="">limited buffer zones around your seat</li>

<li class="">assistance storing medication safely</li>

<li class="">priority boarding where medically necessary</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines are far more proactive than others, while some clearly state they cannot guarantee an allergen-safe environment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is why checking your specific airline policy before booking matters, because you want to be able to know what to ask for when it comes to accommodations when flying with an allergy.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pre-Boarding to Clean Your Seat Area</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is one of the most useful accommodations for families travelling with allergies. When travelling with my daughter with a food allergy we would bring cleaning wipes in our hand luggage and use them to clean down anything she might touch during the flight.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many airlines will allow early boarding so you can:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">wipe tray tables</li>

<li class="">clean armrests</li>

<li class="">wipe seatbelt buckles</li>

<li class="">clean touchscreens and window areas</li>

<li class="">remove visible food residue</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is especially helpful for peanut, tree nut, milk and egg allergies where contact reactions may be a concern.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bring your own antibacterial or allergy-safe wipes, as airlines may not provide them.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines require this to be arranged in advance, while others allow it at the gate. We have had a mixed experience with this and have boarded first in the past but other times boarded as standard.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Asking Nearby Passengers Not to Eat The Allergen</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines will support this request, especially for severe allergies. Actually, some airlines offer you this option upfront without you having to request this.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This may include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">asking nearby passengers not to consume the specific allergen</li>

<li class="">avoiding serving products containing the allergen nearby</li>

<li class="">not selling products with the allergen in them at all</li>

<li class="">asking passengers seated around you to avoid opening allergen-containing foods of their own</li>

<li class="">creating a small “buffer zone” around your row</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is not guaranteed, and airlines usually describe it as a request rather than an enforceable rule.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cabin crew cannot always control what passengers bring onboard themselves.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Still, asking politely often helps far more than people expect.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can Airlines Make Announcements?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sometimes, yes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines may make an onboard announcement such as asking passengers to avoid opening nut products due to a severe allergy onboard. This tends to happen more often with peanut and tree nut allergies.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Policies vary widely:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">some airlines will do this routinely</li>

<li class="">some will only do it on request</li>

<li class="">some refuse entirely due to liability concerns</li>

<li class="">some state announcements do not provide enough medical protection</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is worth asking in advance rather than assuming. Again, our experience with this has been mixed and we have found that on shorter flights the staff are more likely to make an announcement or stop the sale of allergen-contraining goods completely. On the other hand, we have been on flights where other peoples allergies have been announced but our daughters just ignored.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Will Airlines Ban Allergens Completely?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Usually no. Very few airlines will impose a full ban on allergen consumption during a flight. We have had this happen but only on short flights, roughly 2 hours from the UK.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even airlines that no longer serve peanuts cannot control:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">food passengers bring themselves</li>

<li class="">airport-purchased snacks</li>

<li class="">cross-contamination from previous flights</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Because of this, most airlines clearly state they cannot guarantee a peanut-free or allergen-free cabin.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is frustrating, but realistic.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You should always travel assuming exposure is possible.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Allergy-Friendly Meals Onboard</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines offer special meals, including:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">nut-free options</li>

<li class="">dairy-free meals</li>

<li class="">gluten-free meals</li>

<li class="">egg-free meals</li>

<li class="">vegetarian or vegan meals that may help avoid specific allergens</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, airline meals should never be treated as fully safe without direct confirmation. Cross-contamination can still happen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For severe allergies, many families prefer to bring their own safe food instead of relying on inflight catering. This is often the safest option.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We also had a bad experience with Hainan Airlines where they brought our daughter a meal that on the packaging did not have milk in the ingredients, but staff then came over in a mild panic because the planes paperwork listed milk as an ingredient on that meal. Better safe than sorry.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Looking for allergy-friendly airline meals? I&#8217;ve put together a dedicated guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/airline-allergy-codes/" data-type="post" data-id="10173">airline allergy meal codes</a>, covering PFML, NFML, ALML, SPML and other codes that may be relevant if you&#8217;re travelling with food allergies or intolerances, along with advice on airline allergy policies and cross-contamination.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can You Bring Your Own Food?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Usually yes&#8230;and you should. Bringing familiar safe foods removes a huge amount of stress.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is especially important for:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">children with severe allergies</li>

<li class="">autistic children with safe foods</li>

<li class="">children with ARFID or restricted diets</li>

<li class="">long-haul flights</li>

<li class="">unexpected delays</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always check destination customs rules if carrying food internationally, especially dairy, meat, fruit or fresh foods. There are many places where you cannot bring meat or dairy into the country from another country and you have to be very careful about this.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Shelf-stable snacks are usually easiest.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Carrying EpiPens And Medication</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always keep emergency medication in hand luggage. Never put it in your checked baggage.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This includes:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">EpiPens</li>

<li class="">antihistamines</li>

<li class="">inhalers</li>

<li class="">steroid medication</li>

<li class="">medical letters</li>

<li class="">prescriptions</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many families carry more than one EpiPen, especially on long-haul routes. Actually, in the UK the standard prescription for EpiPens always has two EpiPens on it because it is widely accepted that this is the safest way to travel. In some situations, a doctor may prescribe you more if you are travelling for a while.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A doctor’s letter can help with airport security and reduces arguments at check-in. I have a guide that explains what to include on your <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/doctors-letter-travel-medication/" data-type="post" data-id="7701">medication travel letter</a> so you can get it right the first time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also have a full guide on <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/flying-with-epipens/" data-type="post" data-id="8078">flying with EpiPens</a> that helps explain exactly what to carry and how to travel with them safely.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">See what I included in my <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/milk-allergy-baby-travel-essentials/" data-type="post" data-id="1818">baby&#8217;s allergy travel bag</a> for travelling with a cow milk protein allergy.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Medical Luggage Accommodations For Flying With An Allergy</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Depending on the airline, passengers with food allergies may also be entitled to an additional medical luggage allowance, allowing them to carry essential medication, medical equipment and allergy-safe food without it counting towards their standard baggage allowance.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have a guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/medical-luggage-allowance/" data-type="post" data-id="2230">flying with medical luggage</a> and also have posts covering the <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/medical-luggage-europe-airlines/" data-type="post" data-id="2246">top 25 European airlines&#8217; medical baggae policies</a> and the <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/medical-luggage-top-25-global-airlines/" data-type="post" data-id="2232">top 25 global airlines medical luggage policies</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Should You Contact The Airline Before Flying?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Absolutely. Do not leave this until airport check-in.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Contact the airline:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">when booking if possible</li>

<li class="">again before travel</li>

<li class="">again at online check-in if needed</li>

<li class="">and remind staff at the gate</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Be specific.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Instead of saying “my child has allergies,” explain:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">the exact allergen</li>

<li class="">severity of reaction</li>

<li class="">whether airborne exposure is a concern</li>

<li class="">whether you need pre-boarding</li>

<li class="">whether you are requesting announcements</li>

<li class="">whether you need medication access during the flight</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Clear requests get better results. We were always advised to tell every staff member we met from the gate until on the plane so that we were making as many people aware as possible.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Best Airlines For Food Allergy Support</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Policies change regularly, but airlines often mentioned positively include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Emirates</li>

<li class="">Qatar Airways</li>

<li class="">Virgin Atlantic</li>

<li class="">British Airways</li>

<li class="">Jet2</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Low-cost carriers may offer less formal support, so checking policy matters even more. Some of our best experiences travelling with a food allergy have been on Ryanair and easyJet.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Never assume all airlines handle allergies the same way.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Flying with a food allergy is less about hoping nothing goes wrong and more about building layers of protection. Pre-boarding, cleaning your seat, carrying safe food, having medication ready and speaking up early all make a real difference.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most airlines will try to help, but they need to know before you arrive at the gate.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Start Learning About Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Travelling with severe allergies adds an extra layer of planning, especially when your child relies on an EpiPen. Whether you are flying for a family holiday, a cruise, or a long-haul adventure, knowing how to safely travel with adrenaline auto-injectors can make the journey much less stressful.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The good news is yes &#8211; you can absolutely fly with EpiPens. But there are some important things you should do before you get to the airport.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This guide covers everything you need to know about flying with EpiPens, including airport security, airline policies, doctor’s letters, carrying medication abroad, and practical tips that make travelling easier.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quick Wins Before You Fly With EpiPens</h2>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Always carry EpiPens in hand luggage</mark></strong>, never checked baggage</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Take at least two EpiPens per person</mark></strong></li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Bring a doctor’s letter or prescription copy</mark></strong></li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Check expiry dates</mark></strong> before travel</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Pack safe snacks</mark></strong> for flights and delays</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Wipe tray tables and armrests </mark></strong>if allergens are a concern</li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Inform the airline in advance if your allergy is severe</mark></strong></li>

<li class=""><strong><mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">Know how to access emergency help during the flight</mark></strong></li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Can You Take EpiPens on a Plane?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes &#8211; EpiPens are allowed in your hand luggage and should always travel with you in the cabin.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Do not place them in checked luggage.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Checked baggage can be delayed, lost, exposed to extreme temperatures, or inaccessible during the flight. If an allergic reaction happens mid-flight, you need immediate access.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most airlines and airport security staff are very familiar with EpiPens, especially for children.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Do You Need a Doctor’s Letter?</h2>

<div class="wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-794e3cfa wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex">
<div class="wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Technically, many airlines do not require one for standard EpiPens, but I strongly recommend carrying one anyway.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A doctor’s letter can help with:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Airport security questions</li>

<li class="">Customs checks abroad</li>

<li class="">Carrying liquid medication alongside the EpiPen</li>

<li class="">Prescription-only medications travelling with you</li>

<li class="">Controlled medications if your child also takes ADHD medication or other restricted medicines</li>
</ul>
</div>

<div class="wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="630" height="802" src="https://i0.wp.com/autismfamilytravelguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Doctors-letter-for-epipens.png?resize=630%2C802&#038;ssl=1" alt="travel with a doctors letter for medication" class="wp-image-7705" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/autismfamilytravelguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Doctors-letter-for-epipens.png?w=630&amp;ssl=1 630w, https://i0.wp.com/autismfamilytravelguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Doctors-letter-for-epipens.png?resize=236%2C300&amp;ssl=1 236w" sizes="(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px" /></figure>
</div>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your letter should ideally include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Full name of the traveller</li>

<li class="">Date of birth</li>

<li class="">Medical condition (for example severe nut allergy or anaphylaxis risk)</li>

<li class="">Medication name (EpiPen, Jext, Emerade if relevant)</li>

<li class="">Dosage and prescription details</li>

<li class="">Confirmation the medication must stay in hand luggage</li>

<li class="">GP or consultant contact details</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some countries are stricter than others, especially in Asia and the Middle East, so paperwork matters. My guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/doctors-letter-travel-medication/" type="post" id="7701">what to include in a doctors travel letter</a> explains which countries accept a standard letter and which require a bit more information and detail before they approve you to travel with your medication.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Many EpiPens Should You Travel With?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most allergy specialists recommend carrying at least two EpiPens per person.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As a Brit, we can only get a prescription for two EpiPens in most circumstances. I do know that some people like to travel with more if they are going on a longer trip.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Delays happen. Lost bags happen. Unexpected reactions happen.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For cruises, remote destinations, or countries where replacing an EpiPen would be difficult, I would usually travel with extra backup pens.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some families travel with three or four depending on destination and access to healthcare.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Going Through Airport Security</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">EpiPens can go through airport security without problems.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Keep them:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">In original packaging if possible</li>

<li class="">With the prescription label if available</li>

<li class="">Easy to access in your cabin bag</li>

<li class="">Together with your doctor’s letter</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You do not usually need to place EpiPens in the liquids bag because they are medically necessary items, but security staff may want to inspect them.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If travelling with liquid antihistamines, liquid medications, or specialist allergy-safe foods, tell security staff before screening. In some countries, you need a smaller bottle of antihistamine if it was not prescribed by a doctor and doesn&#8217;t have the pharmacy label on it or a doctors letter. This applies to countries which still have a limit of 100ml for liquids coming through security. Otherwise, you can bring the larger bottle of antihistamine.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Airport special assistance can also help reduce stress if your child struggles with queues or sensory overload. My guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/disability-getting-help-at-the-airport/" type="post" id="1528">getting help at the airport</a> explains all of this and how to book it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Should You Tell The Airline?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes &#8211; especially for severe airborne allergies or previous anaphylaxis.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines can:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Note the allergy on your booking</li>

<li class="">Avoid serving specific allergens nearby</li>

<li class="">Allow early boarding for cleaning your seating area</li>

<li class="">Offer guidance on onboard food policies</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Policies vary a lot between airlines.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some will make announcements, some will not, and some cannot guarantee allergen-free cabins.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Never rely on the airline alone for safety.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always bring your own safe food and emergency medication.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What About Airline Food?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Assume nothing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even if you pre-order meals, airline catering can change and cross-contamination is always possible. To learn more about the different meal codes assigned to airplane food and what they mean, my guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/airline-meal-codes-what-they-mean/" type="post" id="1873">airline meal codes</a> is exactly what you need to read.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We always travel with:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Safe snacks</li>

<li class="">Familiar foods</li>

<li class="">Backup meals for delays</li>

<li class="">Allergy-safe wipes</li>

<li class="">Water bottles purchased after security</li>

<li class="">Antihistamines and EpiPens</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is especially important for autistic children who may already have a restricted diet alongside allergies.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sometimes the safest option is simply not using airline food at all.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Keeping EpiPens at The Right Temperature</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">EpiPens should be stored below 25°C and protected from extreme heat or freezing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That means:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Do not leave them in direct sunlight</li>

<li class="">Do not store them in a hot car</li>

<li class="">Do not put them in the aircraft hold</li>

<li class="">Be careful with beach holidays and hot destinations</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some families use insulated medication pouches when travelling to hot countries.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just avoid freezing packs touching the pen directly.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hotel and Destination Planning</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Think beyond the flight.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Check:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="">Nearest hospital or pharmacy</li>

<li class="">Local emergency numbers</li>

<li class="">Availability of replacement EpiPens abroad</li>

<li class="">Translation cards for allergies if travelling internationally</li>

<li class="">Restaurant allergy awareness at your destination</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For countries where language barriers are significant, allergy translation cards are incredibly helpful. My guide to <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/disability-illness-travel-phrases/" type="post" id="1797">learning key phrases before you travel</a> includes a link to Lonely Planet&#8217;s free eBook with accessible travel translations in 35 languages &#8211; each language includes a section about allergies. I also have a guide with a bunch of <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/free-allergy-translation/" type="post" id="1806">free allergy translation cards</a> you can download and print before you travel. Beyond that, I found that <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/equal-eats-allergy-translation-cards/" type="post" id="2108">Equal Eats translation cards</a> are very high quality and can be bought as a hard plastic card or a printable that you can laminate.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cruises and EpiPens</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cruises need extra planning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bring more medication than you think you need because replacing prescriptions at sea is not easy.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tell the cruise line in advance about severe allergies. They usually have a medical form that they want you to fill out so that they have as much information as possible upfront.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Buffets can be difficult because of cross-contamination, so sometimes speaking directly with the dining team helps.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always keep EpiPens with you during shore excursions too &#8211; not left in the cabin.</p>

Policies vary by airline, and cabin crew are not a replacement for your own emergency plan. Always travel with your prescribed medication and inform the airline in advance if your allergy is severe.</p>

<details class="nfd-text-md nfd-p-card-sm nfd-rounded nfd-text-contrast nfd-shadow-xs wp-block-details has-base-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow" style="border-width:1px;font-style:normal;font-weight:500"><summary>Can EpiPens go through airport security?</summary>
<p class="nfd-text-base nfd-text-faded nfd-mt-2 wp-block-paragraph" style="font-style:normal;font-weight:400">Yes, EpiPens can go through airport security without any problem. They are classed as medically necessary items and can stay in your hand luggage. You do not usually need to place them in the standard liquids bag, but security staff may inspect them. Keeping them easy to access and travelling with a doctor’s letter helps avoid delays.</p>
</details>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Flying with EpiPens is absolutely manageable, but it requires planning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We do not leave the house &#8211; let alone the country &#8211; without checking where the EpiPens are first, and always check their expiry date too. The last thing you want is for it to go out of date while you are out of the country.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For families managing autism, food allergies, sensory challenges and restricted diets all at once, preparation is everything.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is not about being over-prepared.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is about making sure your child is safe so the holiday can actually feel like a holiday.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Because peace of mind travels too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here’s a look at some of the most common airline meal codes and what they mean.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vegetarian &amp; Vegan Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These meals are designed for passengers following vegetarian or vegan diets.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>VGML – Vegetarian Meal (Non-Dairy)</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A VGML meal is designed for passengers who follow a strict vegetarian or vegan diet. These meals are free of meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products, typically featuring fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains. It’s ideal for vegans or those who prefer plant-based meals.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Learn more about the VGML code and what it includes in my post dedicated to answering &#8220;<a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/what-does-vgml-mean/" data-type="post" data-id="9597">What does VGML mean?</a>&#8220;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>VLML – Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal</strong></h3>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>VOML &#8211; Vegetarian Oriental Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many people do not understand the difference between VOML and AVML, but there is one!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>AVML stands for Asian Vegetarian Meal. <mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">An AVML is generally an Indian-style vegetarian meal and may contain dairy products.</mark></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>VOML stands for Vegetarian Oriental Meal. <mark style="background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)" class="has-inline-color has-secondary-color">A VOML is an Oriental or East Asian-style vegetarian meal.</mark></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have a seperate guide which details more about the <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/voml-meal-code/" data-type="post" data-id="9685">VOML airline meal code</a> in detail for those who want to understand what is includes and when it should be available.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>AVML &#8211; Asian Vegetarian Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some airlines will label their fully vegans meals as VVML, but other times you may find it under VGML. Vegan meals are free from any animal products: they have no meat or anything in them that has come from an animal, including honey because it means keeping bees to collect their honey.</p>

This special meal typically contains a selection of raw vegetables and may also include fresh fruit, salads and other uncooked plant-based foods. The exact contents vary between airlines and catering providers, so passengers with allergies or strict dietary requirements should check with the airline before travelling.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Religious Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These meals are prepared in accordance with religious dietary requirements.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>HNML – Hindu Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These codes are most relevant for passengers travelling with food allergies or intolerances.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>NFML – No Fish Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The NFML airline meal code may be used for a No Fish Meal. It is intended for passengers who want a meal that does not contain fish, although this does not necessarily mean that shellfish or other seafood allergens are excluded. As definitions and availability can differ between airlines, passengers with fish or seafood allergies should contact the airline to discuss ingredients and cross-contamination risks.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The PFML airline meal code may be used to identify a Peanut-Free Meal. It is intended for passengers who need to avoid peanuts, although availability and the exact meaning of this code can vary between airlines. Ordering a peanut-free meal does not necessarily mean the aircraft or catering environment is completely free from peanuts or cross-contamination, so passengers with a peanut allergy should contact the airline directly about its allergy procedures.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cultural &amp; Regional Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These meals reflect particular regional cuisines rather than dietary or medical requirements.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>OBML – Japanese Obento Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The OBML airline meal code refers to a Japanese Obento Meal, also known as an obento or bento-style meal. It typically features a selection of Japanese dishes presented in separate portions and may include rice, vegetables, fish, meat and other traditional Japanese foods. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Children&#8217;s Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Meals designed specifically for babies and children.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>JNML &#8211; Junior Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The JNML seems to be similar to the CHML and is used to recognise a meal for a child or junior.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are actually more codes that are used by mostly by specific airlines for really niche meals. You can read the Wikipedia post about airline codes <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Air_Transport_Association_code" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here</a>.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CHML – Child Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For young travellers, a CHML meal is designed with children’s tastes in mind. These meals are often simpler and more familiar, including foods like pasta, chicken, or sandwiches, and typically come with a small treat or snack that kids enjoy.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have a post dedicated to explaining <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/what-does-chml-mean/" data-type="post" data-id="9607">what the CHML meal code is</a> with airlines, what it includes and who can use it.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>BBML – Baby Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The BBML is a pre-packaged meal for infants, usually consisting of baby food jars and formula or milk. Parents traveling with babies can request this meal to make feeding time during the flight more convenient.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lifestyle &amp; Preference Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These are selected based on personal preference rather than a medical, religious or ethical requirement.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>FPML – Fruit Plate Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An FPML is ideal for those who prefer or require a light, refreshing meal consisting entirely of fresh fruit. It’s a simple, healthy option often chosen by passengers with digestive issues or those who prefer a natural, low-calorie meal.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Special Occasion Airline Meal Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Meals provided for celebrations rather than dietary needs.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>CLML &#8211; Celebration Cake Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not every meal fits into a standard category.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>SPML &#8211; Special Meal</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The SPML meal code may be used on a passenger booking to indicate that they have ordered a special meal&#8230; but it does not refer to a specific diet or set of ingrediants.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Request Special Meals</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To request one of these meals, you can select the option when booking your flight, or you can contact the airline directly, usually at least 24-48 hours before departure. Most airlines accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, so it’s important to communicate your preferences early to ensure the right meal is prepared for your journey.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Choosing the right meal when flying can make your journey more enjoyable, especially if you have dietary restrictions or specific preferences. Knowing the different codes can help you navigate the options available and ensure you have a meal that suits your needs or is safe for you if you have a food allergy. Be sure to check with your airline, as not all airlines offer every type of meal listed here, but most will have common options like vegetarian, gluten-free, or kosher meals.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unsure which airline special meal to order for your child? <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Continue Learning About Airline Codes</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The MEDA airline code is just one of several Special Service Request (SSR) codes airlines use to record a passenger’s medical, disability or assistance needs. Other codes can indicate wheelchair assistance, reduced mobility, visual or hearing impairments, travelling with an assistance dog, or other support requirements. There are even codes for which type of meal you want to order and many other codes used within the airport and by airlines. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Understanding these SSR codes can make it easier to check that the right assistance has been added to your booking. You can explore my guides to airline SSR disability codes to learn what the different codes mean, when they are used and what support you may need to arrange before you fly.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Packing a changing bag for a baby with an IgE-mediated allergic response to cow’s milk protein takes extra care and attention. While you still need all the regular baby essentials, it’s crucial to be prepared for any allergic reactions and have everything on hand to keep your little one comfortable and safe. Here’s a look at what I pack in my baby’s changing bag to cover all bases.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just to note, she has not yet received her EpiPen so I&#8217;ve not listed this as one of my essentials. Update: we now have her 2 epipens and they are part of our every day essentials and travel essentials.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1. Antihistamines: Piriton and Piriteze</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I always carry Piriton (Chlorphenamine) or Piriteze (Cetirizine) to manage any potential allergic reactions. These are fast-acting antihistamines that help reduce symptoms like swelling, itching, and breathing difficulties. Having these in the bag ensures I’m prepared if my baby accidentally consumes something with cow’s milk protein. Piriton was the recommendation given to us by NHS 24/7, and Piriteze was recommended by our family GP. Both can be taken at the same time. I also carry:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class=""><strong>Two Medicine Syringes:</strong> I pack two to avoid cross-contamination and ensure I have a spare if one gets misplaced or dirty. My son&#8217;s also have an intolerance to milk so I&#8217;ve brought two incase more than one child beings to have a reaction at the same time.</li>

<li class=""><strong>Medicine Spoon:</strong> Just in case it’s easier to administer the liquid this way, depending on how my baby is feeling. This is also a third option incase all of our children begin to react.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225027774130?_skw=piriton%20kids&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM0PG09RSJ3ZGJ1H27M19M&amp;hash=item3464b356b2%3Ag%3A9UMAAOSwUGNiplT7&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKn9zwboR5chpFsitRAXMyuSVxT4I5d2HA7lYg968iR0LKmxj89YWGtMCgM%2FUS%2FnGyloR64%2BIcvbVKjrI%2FsN0%2B7qzf1pp7Bbs02YLK4z056A0KnWlNKylGGov%2BYrnDuhi5iNqGx2isXSFVBlliuVusoKh%2FW%2BNNOa699snqbv6n2Y8%2FIpOCXh7hyQMWleqqIoXjiTuRDnPXjlJUcuaUZAgqO%2FfTBuKIL7nzOl5H1jKJDvsKHsI52nghwFNP%2FoIBzi028rpnpbdakpjpbfCpQxED7G%7Ctkp%3ABFBMhOiC1MRk&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKk6ivmIDYuCS3cHwds8EJNVMxx0sv0xKiNvfC74bzmUwxgg%2BwjWyr7bx0g1DTPwFp2v0GHf0hBV15tRtszf%2BUGBst1kMCEUVW4eYd73dDvqDmcwLtLFD97uzLETNAmPjFcAFQ0KzNc0QdYOmqDG%2Fvo1a1Gr4iQvdxfVN%2BzavXORQkoifhx5tLy7caCaLXsazmc%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy Piriteze on eBay.</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402885840834?_skw=medicine+syringe&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM2Q5VVH2T5Q172Q139ZHT&amp;hash=item5dcdde0fc2:g:KokAAOSwWqFgtAPJ&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkocXkUEyLgFJi8KSAIUEjLdXm0zJH37Z%2BZClI59Ijg%2B2YotfGKwCllBNYmrByPY9gUg3x%2BN6k0GZN7bS5oEzOddC%2BZamd49oGzuDCuc1SZBdT%2FeYhpgpcLskk2hEAnMFLof2wLTJjloXXWPp46wZeYODmH%2BKEaDN7BRDuiTyVz%2FsfSjVNVW6N7ndE4r1EvljfHQqa8Sc9yOTWd0FPfqy%2BUZdPCMto6pclqf%2B5L6MpuCS8KAGQBcx4R8r5fcpFKCH0%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4TzitTEZA&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy medicine syringes on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. Gaviscon Infant</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As my baby also experiences reflux, I keep Gaviscon Infant in the bag. It helps soothe and manage her symptoms, especially after feedings. This is particularly important when she’s fussy or uncomfortable, so I always ensure it&#8217;s close at hand. If we do not include this in the bottles for my baby, she will throw up. So it is a must -have for us.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/365030117300?_skw=gaviscon%20infant&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM443W8QG8KHGVZHJHSGTD&amp;hash=item54fd7d8fb4%3Ag%3A8OkAAOSwqCZmojJf&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnAk6lMRhw%2FiqMPno7I90hvNL6nV%2Ff4m%2BrF6fvIT1F5mYlPThjpS4f8oTo8kTPm8pm0yauWLyWBFvKgcwWRsHj6kISwjksj2xswO3b7DfgiFd99VjvKyQVSplk3cu8SHpRF4KR6w7JeHCTpJyGGq6jOvGad6kuUih6NtBQbhj%2BfQM8U1lHJMTNqbKBKaAhBNP2oomVwSswrM6rYRQhySQEVRd9f%2Fbj4WsIdQlZdC1ujaYL7iu%2BrFn3NkhEmirg02FoH3x8IwuHGE320u3fARXlqWI1rrYYI2Nc8nDb9c2A8%2Bw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4bCkNTEZA&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlo84thp7drRqYAmg1HjztUhUKe46pMAG5fzGAmtNVGaao5qKhP2AprGDgF1bRt26iOF95v25qQuTUMRsuiOB%2FzW2CB5DBHeSkDDnYqWop%2B5JkJ2ML7vNxrRDD3AvOnxl%2BvCnZ4v1w1x8CyjavjrDTrMPC0%2FbexlBosXcw9gxOzYamuVJfC9lXSElEwoq2o0os%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy Gaviscon Infant on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. Diapers and Diaper Bags</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Of course, no changing bag is complete without the essentials: diapers and diaper bags. I usually carry about five to six diapers, which can last us for a day out, and diaper bags to safely dispose of them. The diaper bags are also good for picking up and throwing away any items we come across which could cause an allergic reaction &#8211; like empty wrappers or dropped chocolate at the park.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285151614936?_skw=nappy%20bags&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM5B2KNVEVR56PB31TZXN5&amp;hash=item42645c57d8%3Ag%3ArMcAAOSwKIpj790t&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlfmw1orSYHDl0ozcjSdSwtwTh%2Bii9EDj3AeOaL1XriNCxasempDRrVyX4McW3ZgYgKawtV2YhcwQXpzSjplnhR2hqA3EufEy0FYmF3wX2kKoYDpcthvOjfhl%2F%2BJIw%2BC9vIQNhM3ytUAmS1DI13%2Bqqmlo6oaVu%2BHPady2zYeAjoea8B4ioGnwyFGgvEvXMwWyie9oz3gCuNE8k02k1IdW%2B2XJ3V0SFWYYK0yH8q4NBx1FgaeKdKy%2Ftk2ZAsQrQutKMirtivntzVToJRMCPkiNTJ%7Ctkp%3ABFBMsLGV1MRk&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKk121TQ8kZeF%2BzOjY883fWK8NNFciBormWavb40G%2B1g%2BAW3Ek6sDPo5dzNRycpYO6Gqdvb0G9eG2V8dgO%2FYwuP8lDudah7jcfQfV34UvvzFryQQ0xu8p3RGeL6XatvD1qZGI2Yk0101K8S5kFWpxqeM0G%2FqzTYhjNeCUTwfR5vCMSj0mUJIekcumrhE2jT258I%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy diaper bags on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. Teething Granules</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teething granules are a lifesaver when she’s teething, as they provide gentle relief from gum pain. These are homeopathic and work well for us, so I keep a few sachets in her bag at all times. I also have been told so many times that her fussiness and red face is due to teething, so at least if I have these I can also try them if she begins to feel upset.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324495251225?_skw=teething%20granules&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM6FG71E7JGT7Q4AQVJK0M&amp;hash=item4b8d6c9719%3Ag%3AawUAAOSwHXxgM-FA&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKng1LW1nU899bnc22irRAwRd9DawfR1bwisl9oZtYR4K1LbO1NuiJ2RJwzvDOIRd4EkN5ZI3x3pkw8E5boQcFC78c4jJlOLQNo%2BsZ7EqNgVhbmwj%2BD8Yjkvj67tqKwlYId8s8IVY704S6REu7BfLu8p%2BV1Xz7cMeY%2BfQC6tcmMm4w9mB2kwzbJCATfHTskL6PvV4nTlwFuQ8if9lWLY3JlND%2FuZRvrW%2FQ1C%2FrXOEJvoEZQ%2FLXo8S225b%2BX1lVn0t6fBJsLeQaHA1XlLA8eJ%2F0oS50l8Wv4iF9tED1ZX3iB9GQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMmPiZ1MRk&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKm0oJpilBEhdfpyq8Ml8Uiy2zFr%2FjXdj5T3Par1StKCx3YUAjAkamh7Nb1%2BFgHSVeRfSQRNdabR%2Bg6C4ZBwI8fChzwvFgYTZ7jWAxs533NXx8cy6l2uJfRqOPhzAfyYdl%2F0FFvQugD1FHRipqOuHWJLwxRTPuwJJAvmGeNEH7on5ojc0YHkaxEfhZa4OjqaR2c%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy teething granules on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5. Baby Wipes</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether for cleaning up after diaper changes or dealing with spills, I always have a pack of baby wipes. They’re versatile and essential for keeping everything tidy and hygienic. It will be handy to have these while we are on the go to try to keep our hands as clean as possible if we snack on something with milk ourselves.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314082676871?_skw=baby+wipes&amp;epid=27047841745&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM7EPQC5V7B571NNT5QK4W&amp;hash=item4920c95087:g:yIwAAOSw-Xli26Gw&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKl1yccGmrQaP97ah8Cn7ZLSvvDb%2F7Pea3hTm9h%2BgonjNNF6zQB9EPDWA5GI%2FjtzLAPH8YE3B2%2F9y9k8h8s08qN0TFialyGTDXfjPToNXRYM2VgQbzdMcvlGAt8s8Cs4C0v1rFRM8FHAr8%2B34VpilSzWcI1MwXFYOEVwrYIzLPP63f33bN%2BTnLyCKvvVmp%2FuGL8wC3r90BiyA1fJKfsjhRbx8UiOJQZD%2BnZjY6V6JPV9rOjx5%2F%2BrfhofNTSYTbcJ0qL2RRi6FtKRGvILVsOLVR1F%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR7rrndTEZA&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy baby wipes on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>6. Hand Sanitiser</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For my hands, I carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer to ensure cleanliness after diaper changes, especially when there isn’t immediate access to soap and water. I will also be using this after touching surfaces in public.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185493436170?_skw=hand%20sanitiser&amp;itmmeta=01J8JM8RFT3D31M8Y4H9QFFZ91&amp;hash=item2b3045370a%3Ag%3AYxoAAOSw1uZiyD8z&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKmBSlpnkROy%2FczPrLqHGpGDEAD3C8drcOjJcyTMrYQSIxkHZgVMrH4YkXQvuGdRY2RBLetncUIkLqFoxJmSpppOINLsQZR3d4CcQxIUjL47MHImS9m6BD9s8jUJbZ4Vy%2Br8O9NczrfU6MI8kTsoNFCFKXJuhTsuO0IT%2BjzoSNHT2izgUdXePywMGDKUevbHEG25LvYM1spxj9c0w2iRBOEubgtuafWKW5zbgDkiO9uQBA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABlBMUICIo9TEZA&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlaTBTCv%2BobYR7GDbe33EJGXN7NOzjsdie79FQKMwrK2buTRjOQjEGtbnfMDyO%2FYAvcU41s0o4jSej1%2FZkKrT%2By3KC3vfyVHO%2BAcRvIxwKv%2BhLmhUgUY7w3B7b4lDRhY1MOnHKizZzQMI1zjO4q7P0HBepGACzBbmgaGVBjLhxK4P6DaL%2FKzoC%2BO%2Fxvy63E0fM%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy travel-sized hand sanitisers on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>7. Baby Spoon</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I bring along a baby spoon for feeding her safe snacks or meals. As she has a cow’s milk protein allergy, it’s essential that I feed her with utensils that I know are clean and free from allergens. It has also been nearly impossible to find toddler-safe cutlery when we eat out during our travels.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325886754419?_skw=baby%20spoon&amp;itmmeta=01J8JMA2S3DAJP2TD6JD060C5R&amp;hash=item4be05d3e73%3Ag%3AjzEAAOSwLNNlU6X4&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkyMbd2R%2FUWA6SluODwU86zxc5wk%2F7QDHWXH1qu81MvDoEZRfir9%2B1nRY5IKuiYKz27ffByPt5m58im4OaJ6yD37JRSqX3x8Zs9pPIIQWdbUBFwRrlYzdc66pMJINm9MuW0PzImzGMWnsFWmNiHbwJjwNhVsNkWXI2M0SEEBLmZBWoMBYJ1ZHtunJOyCIbAWuaaVmSvFNLrUDGkmdNMyrVSs638XHY7KtjtJE1MrpTCjKiYwCd4lUnWs2Rqt5V7LmE%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9SsqNTEZA&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnEful%2FeC1G6%2FssdoUtSA%2BMUUj%2FmseTuganJvqkA97yDLNrnk2QLunEDTzNUlCGRdAALkUicWSqaQiTbVBufusbj%2F0iXmjNQxGi6n4BIy7VIX4ogKhgHRsRfJjzbMZXw6vtILIkcb5qjDzvGpI7dSdTJWMz7ob8NBjocgclrgFAnx6NgS3x4%2BGD6H4pLQ0GprU%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy baby spoons on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>8. Bum Cream</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Diaper rashes can happen anytime, so I always pack bum cream to keep her skin protected and moisturized during diaper changes. Her nappy rash is much worse whenever she comes into contact with milk, just like her face and body. So this cream will double-up as a way to soothe those red, hot patches of skin if she consumes milk.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>9. Snack Clip</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I pack my baby’s safe snacks (allergen-free) in resealable bags or containers, and I always have a clip to seal them securely. This helps keep her snacks fresh and prevents them from spilling inside the bag.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195781164804?_skw=snack%20seal%20clip&amp;itmmeta=01J8JMD1G1AXYP5WWD1GBG1FGV&amp;hash=item2d95777f04%3Ag%3AZnoAAOSw~zRkbHD7&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnWgYSby71BT755NsVlSYtd6yhsCLDob%2FFIZnYG%2Fv0zb5T1CSvHEl8XgVBr%2B3IY4KbWQenqAPsbvpW50XrCAtxotOSw9pSAQBekaYlc3xo0feiPEcyv7W0tGH17Ns1E%2FIov9RuLmaZAd3eXcolI813Fsj%2Fx923ygscjNgjVSPRv46I4TBquQXcUY8fDrhitCnbqHRyEjJgfVJOe1UE4%2BX2RcBtVlhlTy9Sw%2FcLnB3dZI9sdNs75eoK55mYEVPbFSjK2IVitUXzy4TkyWsYJveqsnPZFeKrEFl53kpJsgBOWqA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMkJi01MRk&amp;amdata=enc%3AAQAJAAAAoHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkMabFQuWbKI%2FGZW3p8mPnzXZ3D2wquphxHckmVNdg8TG%2FXobONyykNgeR1dqwdc9nSj2605r4%2Fkpz20fkPPT%2B1TMIe6wcjQw6w0rBXzTqjn3f%2F5c%2BcSMIfEQgFae6FRXgvw3cBNJ2qkAdxPb4ixq%2FBdNKclkDbpu238D%2FfQuAi2M3U1l%2BI8QVcshW2fmMUaE4%3D&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy snack clips on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>10. A Change of Clothes</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Accidents happen! I always include at least one extra set of clothes in case she spills food, has a blowout, or gets messy during the day. This is also important incase she does happen to get milk-foodstuffs on her clothes. At least we can change them to keep her safe.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">11. A Wet Clothes Bag</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We always travel with a clothing bag that can hold wet clothes inside without soaking everything else in the bag. This is important incase she does get milk on herself, or if she throws up from consuming milk.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334970193453?_skw=baby+dirty+clothes+bag&amp;itmmeta=01J8JME8Q50S34Y9TC3AAQJZ1B&amp;hash=item4dfdc7862d:g:rkAAAOSwi1Zd5Sq~&amp;itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnAiYbs7wFK9XJJyt%2FzlbBfc45u%2B6iAhkXztKZRs9naXhdIqFyuZUd00VfNpmql77nVNEBsqFvEO9dc6i7z0%2FzrZ8d2RHHyAEZuMpb09F9VmoiVFGpdf7BcAF5fU8oywG61NyMXpv4RrrrpD7%2Fq1S8Y%2BZ7cj2mEbN7w%2FfitdxKtcQ5krq90DXBBOGPtZa7WWRo5eK0hxj7VYkNUPnik88HR9yIQV65Onyl%2BAuBiUJrKDxEalKZOiWBZrcYaKF58QLBxRW2Gx24YMVRixG%2BrQCi49wEgEEr9oCfnr4U9%2FA4xkg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9SLudTEZA&amp;mkcid=1&amp;mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&amp;siteid=3&amp;campid=5339081691&amp;customid=&amp;toolid=10001&amp;mkevt=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Buy a wet clothes bag on eBay.</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">12. Allergy Translation Cards</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have began to purchase allergy translation cards for the places we will be visiting. Some are printed on plastic and are the size of a credit card, others I print out myself and laminate. I also keep a copy of common phrases and terms related to her allergy so I can refer to it any time I need. Learn more about some free allergy translation cards I have found <a href="https://autismfamilytravelguide.com/free-allergy-translation/">here</a>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Packing for a baby with a cow&#8217;s milk protein allergy means being organized and ready for any situation. Along with everyday baby necessities, having antihistamines, medical tools, and safe snacks ensures that I’m always prepared to manage her allergy and keep her happy and healthy while we&#8217;re out. Having this bag packed and ready to go gives me peace of mind, knowing I can handle any allergic reactions and keep her comfortable on the go. I need to re-pack and prepare this for every trip we take because my ADHD and autistic brain cannot remember what is in the bag after about a day!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lonely Planet Accessible Travel Phrasebook</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This free downloadable e-book by Lonely Planet includes allergy terminology for 35 languages. Learn more about the e-book here: <a href="https://shop.lonelyplanet.com/products/accessible-travel-phrasebook?srsltid=AfmBOoquUoyfHD_W_Nk2S8zLA84wLH6ocM-QXBe2BOqyco83YM4PhDjX" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lonely Planet Accessible Travel Phrasebook</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Broker Fish Allergy Cards</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Broker Fish have created 8 different types of allergy cards in six different languages. Each of them is available to download for free. I was happy to see that one of the language is Thai, as most of the freebies I have found only have European languages available. Get your cards here: <a href="https://brokerfish.com/resources/allergycards/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Broker Fish Allergy Cards</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Allergy Action Cards</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Allergy Action have created a bunch of downloadable cards that you can print or save on your phone. The cards cover common allergies and popular languages and you can get your copy of the cards here: <a href="https://allergyaction.org/translations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Allergy Action downloadable allergy cards</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Food Allergy Cards App</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This app seems to be marketed as being free, but it is only free in English, French and Russian and the rest you pay for. The price is low compared to the actual physical cards and it was under £2, but it is not clear if that is cost per language or if it is a monthly subscription that opens all languages.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Download the Food Allergy Cards app on iOS: <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/food-allergy-card/id6448350429" target="_blank" rel="noopener">iOS App</a></p>
