If you’re travelling to the Philippines, you’ll need to complete the Philippines Digital Arrival Card, officially known as the eTravel form. This has replaced the old paper arrival cards and is now mandatory for most travellers entering the country.

Here’s exactly what it is, who needs to do it, when to complete it, and some practical tips to make the process smoother—especially if you’re travelling as a family.

What is the Philippines Digital Arrival Card (eTravel)?

The Philippines Digital Arrival Card (eTravel) is an online immigration and health declaration form required by the Philippine government. It collects:

Passport and personal details

Flight and arrival information

Address of stay in the Philippines

Basic health and travel history information

Once completed, you receive a QR code, which immigration officers scan on arrival.

There is no cost to complete the official eTravel form.

Who needs to complete the Philippines Digital Arrival Card?

The eTravel form is required for:

All international travellers arriving in the Philippines, including:

Tourists

Returning residents

Filipino citizens

Adults and children (each traveller needs their own form)

Parents or guardians can complete the form on behalf of children.

Transit passengers who do not pass immigration usually do not need to complete it—but if you are unsure, it’s best to check with your airline.

Why do you need to complete it?

The eTravel system allows Philippine immigration authorities to:

Speed up arrival processing

Reduce paperwork at the airport (or other arrival port)

Carry out health and border screening more efficiently

If you arrive without completing it, you’ll usually be asked to fill it in at the airport—which can be stressful after a long flight and may involve queues or poor Wi-Fi.

How far in advance can you complete the eTravel form?

You can complete the Philippines Digital Arrival Card:

Within 72 hours (3 days) before arrival

You cannot submit it earlier than this.

How to complete the Philippines Digital Arrival Card online

You’ll need:

Passport (for each traveller)

Flight details (arrival flight number)

Address of your accommodation (hotel, resort, or residential address)

Once completed, you’ll receive a QR code by email or on-screen—take a screenshot or save it offline.

Tips for filling it in smoothly (especially with kids)

1. Use the official website only

There are many third-party sites that charge fees. The official eTravel form is free. This is the official website to do the eTravel form for the Philippines for free. You can also download an app to your mobile device to do the form within an app.

2. Complete each traveller separately

Even babies and toddlers need their own form and QR code.

3. Save screenshots

Airport Wi-Fi can be unreliable. Screenshot each QR code before you land.

4. Use your accommodation’s full address

Copy it directly from your booking confirmation to avoid errors.

5. Don’t stress over minor typos

Small mistakes (like hotel spelling) usually aren’t an issue, but passport numbers must be correct.

6. Do it before the airport if possible

Filling it in at home is much easier than juggling phones, bags, and children after landing.

Do you need to print the Philippines Digital Arrival Card?

No – printing is not required. A digital QR code on your phone is enough, though having a printout as backup never hurts.

Doing the eTravel form for a Philippines Digital Arrival Card helps to avoid delays and paperwork in the airport on arrival (and the eTravel government app even suggests you will need a QR code to be able to board a flight so it could cause other issues if you don’t do it in time).

If you are planning a trip to the Philippines, my guide to visiting with autistic children is the best place to begin.

Getting To Boracay

Getting to Boracay, a popular tropical island in the Philippines, involves a few steps since the island itself doesn’t have an airport. Here are all the ways to get there:

Fly to Caticlan (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport): You can take a direct domestic flight from major cities like Manila, Cebu, or Davao to Caticlan. This is the closest airport to Boracay. Some international flights may also land in Caticlan, particularly from nearby countries. However, most international travellers will need to transfer through Manila or Cebu. From Caticlan Airport, take a short tricycle ride (about 5-10 minutes) to the Caticlan Jetty Port. At the Jetty Port, buy tickets for the ferry (banca or speedboat) to Boracay. The boat ride to Boracay Island takes around 15-20 minutes. Once on Boracay Island, take another tricycle or e-trike to your hotel or destination. You can book transfers from Caticlan to Boracay online here.

Fly to Kalibo (Kalibo International Airport): Kalibo is another option with frequent flights from Manila, Cebu, or other cities. Kalibo receives some international flights from countries like South Korea, China, or Taiwan. Then from Kalibo Airport, take a van, bus, or taxi from Kalibo Airport to Caticlan Jetty Port (about 1.5 to 2 hours). From Caticlan Jetty Port, follow the same procedure as mentioned above for the ferry to Boracay. You can book your transfers from Kalibo to Boracay with GetYourGuide here.

Ferry from Batangas to Caticlan: If you prefer traveling by sea, you can take a ferry from Batangas Port to Caticlan. This is a longer but scenic route. Companies like 2GO Travel offer overnight ferry services that take around 9-12 hours. Once you arrive at Caticlan Port, you can proceed directly to the Jetty Port for the boat ride to Boracay.

Drive or Bus to Caticlan: For those already in the Philippines and near Luzon, it’s possible to drive or take a bus to Batangas Port, then ferry to Caticlan, or drive/bus directly to Caticlan, depending on your starting point. Companies like Philtranco, Ceres, and DLTB offer services from Manila to Caticlan.

Private Yacht or Boat: If you’re coming from nearby islands or if you have access to a private yacht, you can sail directly to Boracay.

Chartered Flights: For a more exclusive option, you can charter a private plane to Caticlan or Kalibo from major cities in the Philippines.

Seaplane: There are seaplane services available from Manila directly to Boracay. This is a quick and luxurious option, offering stunning aerial views of the islands.

Helicopter: Helicopter transfers are available from certain locations like Manila or Cebu directly to Boracay, landing at private helipads on the island.

We flew from Manila to Kalibo, where we took a cramped mini bus to Caticlan. From Caticlan we took a boat over to Boracay.

Where To Stay in Boracay

During our stay on Boracay, we stayed in multiple areas in the south of the island. We first checked into Ferra Hotel – where we spent David’s birthday. We moved then to a little hotel in the mountains near White Beach. We later moved to the other side of the island to a hotel on Tambisaan Beach where we stayed at the end of our time in Boracay.

Family-Friendly Activities in Boracay

White Beach

Spend a day at White Beach, Boracay’s most famous spot, with powdery white sand and calm, shallow waters. It’s perfect for swimming, building sandcastles, or just relaxing.

Explore D’Mall, a shopping and dining area with a variety of restaurants, souvenir shops, and entertainment options. It’s a great place to grab a bite or shop for unique items. We really enjoyed this area, but it was quite busy and overwhelming for Travis so we didn’t hang around long. We still have Boracay vests we got for Travis here, his little brother wears them now.

Boracay Wildlife Sanctuary

Explore the Boracay Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can see exotic animals, including birds, reptiles, and monkeys. It’s an educational and enjoyable experience for kids.

Helmet Diving

Try helmet diving, a unique experience where you can walk on the seabed while wearing a helmet that lets you breathe normally. It’s safe for older kids and adults who want to see marine life up close. You can book a helmet diving tour with photos and video here.

Paraw Sailing

Enjoy a paraw sailing trip, a traditional outrigger sailboat ride around the island. It’s a relaxing way to experience the sunset or explore the island’s coastline with the family. GetYourGuide offer a paraw sailing trip with photos.

Visit Motag Living Museum

Take a cultural trip to the Motag Living Museum, where you can experience traditional Filipino village life, including farming, weaving, and cooking demonstrations. It’s both educational and interactive.

Banana Boat Ride

Hop on a banana boat for a thrilling yet safe ride that the whole family can enjoy. It’s a fun way to cool off and enjoy the waves together. Book your banana boat ride here or try an alternative – a flying donut experience.

These activities offer a mix of relaxation, adventure, and cultural experiences, ensuring that every family member has something to enjoy during their trip to Boracay with autistic children. Our favourite thing to do on the island was just chilling at White Beach.

Our Favourite Sensory-Friendly Experience on Boracay

Our favourite thing to do on the island was just chilling at White Beach. Although certain areas (known as ‘stations’) are much more busy, we found that there were some really quiet areas where Travis could enjoy the freedom to run and play without too many other people around. On the busier parts of the beach he actually was constantly approached and touched by Chinese tourists because of his blonde hair and blue eyes.

Getting Around Boracay With Autistic Children

During our stay, we mostly walked around the area where we were staying. When moving between locations we took a car because it was too far with bags. During our tours we took the transport they provided. It is probably best to use taxis or other local forms of transport to get around the island. You can also consider renting a car.

Is Boracay Autism-Friendly?

Boracay is a beautiful and welcoming destination, but it may not yet be fully equipped to support the specific needs of individuals with autism. Visitors should plan carefully, choose accommodations and activities that cater to their needs, and be prepared for potential challenges in finding specialized services.

Things That Make Boracay Stand Out

While Boracay is known for its lively nightlife and festivals, these may not always be autism-friendly due to loud music, crowds, and sensory overload. However, the island’s quieter moments, especially on less populated beaches, can be more suitable for individuals with sensory sensitivities.

While Boracay has emergency medical services, it’s crucial to have a plan in place for any specific medical needs related to autism, given the limited availability of specialized care.

Boracay’s main attractions include beaches, water sports, and outdoor activities. While these can be enjoyable for individuals with autism, they can also be overwhelming due to crowds and noise, especially during peak seasons. It may be beneficial to plan activities during less busy times to create a more comfortable experience.

Tips for a Smooth Experience

Plan Ahead: Research each location and contact them to discuss any special accommodations your child might need. If you can plan to arrive after check-in time you should, or try to arrange an early check-in. To plan ahead for your trip to the Philippines head over to my Philippines travel page to find links to all of my destination guides in the Philippines, accessibility information, recommended attractions and tours and so much more.

Sensory Tools: Bring along sensory tools and comfort items that help manage sensory needs, such as noise-cancelling headphones, sensory toys, and a sensory toolkit.

Clear Communication: Ensure that everyone involved in the trip understands the needs and preferences of the neurodiverse individual. Clear communication can prevent misunderstandings and enhance the travel experience. Consider using PECS or an AAC. We have a free pack of travel PECS available for download. Consider using our Philippines PECS and Boracay PECS to add to your experience.

Safety: Consider getting an autism card for your child, or even better – use our emergency passport for medical information and important contacts. Our absolute must have safety item for travelling with an autistic child is a TinyTags wristband or tag that can be tapped or scanned by a mobile phone – giving the person who tapped it all of the information they need to get your child back to you. TinyTags also feature a location alert to help you find your child.

Boracay is a very magical island, and it is one of our favourite places to travel with autistic children.

Getting from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to the City

This is by far the busiest airport for arrivals I have ever seen. When we walked out of the airport I genuinely thought that someone famous was there because of how big the crowds were.

Traveling from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the city offers several transportation options:

Taxi: Approximately PHP 300-500 (€5-9) for a one-way trip to the city centre and takes anywhere between 30-60 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis are readily available outside the airport.

Grab (Ride-Hailing App): Approximately PHP 300-500 (€5-9) for a one-way trip and takes approximately 30-60 minutes. Using the Grab app is a convenient and safe way to get to your destination. It’s similar to Uber and allows you to book a ride directly from your phone. We opted for a Grab for convenience and comfort, especially useful when traveling with strollers and luggage. They pick you up in a little bay just off the arrivals main area.

Airport Shuttle: Approximately PHP 20-50 (€0.3-0.9) per person for a one-way trip. Approximately 30-60 minutes to get to Manila city centre. Airport shuttle buses are a budget-friendly option, connecting the airport terminals to various points in the city. They are less convenient for families with young children or lots of luggage.

Private Car Service: Approximately PHP 1,000-1,500 (€17-26) for a one-way trip and also takes between 30-60 minutes. Private car services offer door-to-door convenience and are ideal for larger families or those with specific needs. You can book an airport transfer online via GetYourGuide here. This might be the best way to reach Manila with autistic children.

Our Stay in Manila With Autistic Children

We arrived to Manila with no idea what we would do there, and planned to just wanted and find whatever we could to do. We were surprised by how busy and chaotic the area we were in was. It was always full of kids asking for money and following you begging for things. This is especially tough to manage as I often walked by myself and didn’t have money on me because David would be carrying it.

Family-Friendly Activities in Manila

Manila offers numerous family-friendly activities that cater to different interests and sensory needs. Here are some highlights:

Manila Ocean Park

An oceanarium featuring marine life exhibits, interactive shows, and an underwater tunnel. It’s both educational and visually stimulating.

Rizal Park (Luneta Park)

A historic urban park with gardens, playgrounds, and a lagoon. It’s a relaxing place for families to explore and have picnics.

Manila Zoo

A popular zoo with various animal exhibits and a children’s playground. It’s an exciting outing for kids who love animals, but we did find it to be pretty bare and lacking a lot of animals from the exhibits. It honestly felt so dingy and dirty and maybe it was a sensory thing from me but I could not wait to get back to the hotel to shower after the Manila zoo visit. On the flip side, Travis seems to really enjoy it here and liked having open space to run around for a while.

Getting Around Manila With Autistic Children

We walked to all of the things we wanted to see within Manila, it wasn’t much! When going from the airport to our hotel, and from our hotel to the airport we took a Grab car. Manila is busy and traffic moves so slowly in some areas that walking is better. But walking can also be hard due to how much traffic there is when just trying to cross a road. It is hectic.

I would recommend using an app to take a car anywhere you need to go – it is so easy and being able to track the driver so you know how long it will be is such a bonus.

Is Manila Autism-Friendly?

Manila is somewhat autism-friendly, with a growing awareness and a developing infrastructure to support individuals with autism. While the city faces challenges such as noise, crowds, and inconsistent access to specialized services, there are also positive aspects, including supportive communities, specialized educational and healthcare facilities, and a growing number of autism-friendly events and initiatives.

Things That Make Manila Stand Out

Public transportation in Manila, including jeepneys, buses, and the MRT/LRT train systems, can be chaotic, crowded, and noisy, which may be overwhelming for individuals with autism. However, ride-hailing services like Grab or private transportation can offer more control and comfort.

Manila’s infrastructure can be challenging to navigate due to traffic congestion and the fast-paced urban environment. However, newer developments and malls often have better accessibility features.

Manila has several parks, such as Rizal Park (Luneta) and the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center, where individuals can enjoy outdoor activities in a relatively calm environment, especially during off-peak hours.

Places like the National Museum of the Philippines and the Mind Museum can offer enriching experiences, though they may become crowded. Visiting during weekdays or less busy times can provide a more comfortable experience.

Manila is known for its large shopping malls, such as SM Mall of Asia and Greenbelt Mall. These malls are modern and have facilities that might help families, like family rooms and quieter areas, though the general environment can be busy and noisy.

Practical Tips for Autism Families

Plan Ahead: Research each location and contact them to discuss any special accommodations your child might need. If you can plan to arrive after check-in time you should, or try to arrange an early check-in. Head to our Philippines travel hub for all of our Philippines guides and autism-friendly recommendations.

Sensory Tools: Bring along sensory tools and comfort items that help manage sensory needs, such as noise-cancelling headphones, fidget toys, or weighted blankets.

Clear Communication: Ensure that everyone involved in the trip understands the needs and preferences of the neurodiverse individual. Clear communication can prevent misunderstandings and enhance the travel experience. Consider using PECS or an AAC. We have a free pack of travel PECS available for download. Add to your trip to the Philippines with our Manila PECS cards and Philippines PECS cards.

Our short trip to Manila with autistic children was quite disappointing if I am honest. We found it hard to find any safe foods for Travis and it was even hard to find vegetarian eats where we were. The people traffic was really chaotic and people would chase you for money. I found it really hard to navigate.
