Vietnam has a growing network of international and domestic airports, and if you are travelling with a disability, reduced mobility, autism, hidden disabilities, or additional support needs, it helps to know what Vietnam airports special assistance looks like. If you are planning a trip to Vietnam ,my guide to travelling in Vietnam with kids is a good place to start.
Most major airports in Vietnam offer special assistance services for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), wheelchair users, elderly travellers, families travelling with disabled children, and passengers who need extra support navigating the airport. If you are new to special assistance or airport assistance, I have a guide that breaks down exactly what help you can get at the airport with a disability.
Support may include:
- Wheelchair assistance
- Help through check-in, security and immigration
- Priority boarding and disembarkation
- Buggy transport in larger terminals
- Assistance for hidden disabilities and neurodivergent travellers
- Support for visually impaired or hearing impaired passengers
- Lift services where air bridges are not available
In most cases, assistance should be requested through your airline at least 48 hours before travel. You can often do this during the booking process, but it is best to contact the airline once you have made a booking so you can explain to them the eact type of help you need to travel.
This guide lists the main airports in Vietnam along with links to their special assistance, disability support or passenger services pages where available.

What to Expect When Booking Special Assistance in Vietnam
I apologise that I have been unable to find many of the special assistance department pages for airports in Vietnam – honestly I failed to find a working website for each airport most of the time. Luckily, most Vietnamese airports work closely with airlines rather than handling assistance requests directly.
This means you should usually:
- Request assistance when booking your flight
- Contact your airline again at least 48 hours before departure
- Arrive earlier than usual at the airport
- Check where the designated special assistance meeting point is located
If you are travelling with an autistic child or someone with a hidden disability, it can also help to explain sensory sensitivities, communication needs, or waiting difficulties in advance rather than only requesting wheelchair support.
Some airports may not advertise hidden disability support clearly online, but assistance teams can often still help when arranged through the airline.
If you are new to the term PRM, I advise you read up about what PRM is in my guide and then look into using the PRM Assist app to make special assistance service requests.
Quick Tips for Disabled Travellers in Vietnam
- Always pre-book airport assistance rather than relying on same-day requests
- Carry medical letters if travelling with medication or mobility equipment (I have a guide which explains what to include on a doctors travel letter so you can get it right the first time)
- Confirm battery rules in advance if travelling with powered mobility aids
- Allow extra time for domestic connections
- Keep airline contact details saved for quick support if plans change
Vietnam can be a fantastic destination for families travelling with additional needs, especially when airport support is arranged properly before departure.
The key is planning ahead. Knowing which airport to contact, how to request assistance, and what support is available can make the entire journey much less stressful.
