Days out can be expensive, especially when you are paying for a whole family. However, there are some brilliant discounts available across the UK for people receiving Universal Credit.
Some attractions offer entry for as little as £1, while others have heavily discounted tickets for adults and children. In many cases, the discount also applies to other means-tested benefits, and some attractions allow several members of the same household to visit at the reduced rate.
This guide brings together free and discounted Universal Credit days out across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, including zoos, castles, museums, palaces, gardens and family attractions.

The Tower of London offers £1 tickets to people receiving Universal Credit and several other qualifying UK benefits. You can claim £1 tickets for up to four people in your household, and only one person needs to provide supporting documentation. Children under five are free and do not require a ticket.
This is one of the biggest potential savings on this list, particularly for families visiting London, where standard admission to major attractions can quickly add up.
£1 Hampton Court Palace Tickets
Hampton Court Palace is another Historic Royal Palaces attraction offering £1 admission.
The offer is available to people receiving:
- Universal Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Pension Credit
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance
Up to four people from the same household can visit for £1 each on this Universal Credit day out.
£1 Kensington Palace Tickets
You can also visit Kensington Palace for just £1 if you receive Universal Credit or another qualifying benefit.
As with the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace, the offer covers up to four people per household and only one person needs to show supporting evidence.
£1 Hillsborough Castle and Gardens Tickets
The Historic Royal Palaces £1 ticket scheme also extends to Hillsborough Castle and Gardens in Northern Ireland. This makes Hillsborough particularly important for this guide, as many lists of Universal Credit days out focus heavily on England and have very few Northern Ireland options.
The £1 ticket scheme covers standard day admission when the attraction is open.

£1 Buckingham Palace Tickets
The Royal Collection Trust offers £1 tickets to people receiving Universal Credit and other named means-tested benefits. Eligible households can book up to six £1 tickets per visit.
Only one person in the household needs to provide supporting documentation, but that person must be part of the visit. Tickets should be booked in advance as discounted allocations can sell out.
£1 Windsor Castle Tickets
Windsor Castle is also included in the Royal Collection Trust’s £1 ticket scheme. Universal Credit days out offers UC recipients up to six £1 tickets per household.
This is another significant saving for families wanting to visit one of the UK’s best-known royal attractions.
£1 Palace of Holyroodhouse Tickets
Families visiting Edinburgh should check the £1 ticket scheme at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The Royal Collection Trust offers £1 admission for visitors receiving Universal Credit and other qualifying benefits, making this a particularly useful addition to a budget Edinburgh itinerary.

£1 St Paul’s Cathedral Tickets
St Paul’s Cathedral offers £1 sightseeing tickets to UK visitors receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Employment and Support Allowance. One eligible adult can purchase £1 tickets for themselves and up to four children aged 6 to 17.
The sightseeing ticket includes access to the Cathedral Floor, Crypt and Dome Galleries. Tickets can be booked online, and St Paul’s advises visitors to bring supporting documentation.
£1 RHS Garden Tickets
The Royal Horticultural Society has one of the best Universal Credit days out garden offers I’ve found.
Visitors receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Employment and Support Allowance can visit participating RHS gardens for £1, along with up to five other people in their party.
The offer is available at RHS gardens including:
RHS Garden Bridgewater
Universal Credit recipients and up to five people in their party can visit for £1 each.
RHS Garden Harlow Carr
The same £1 offer is available at RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Yorkshire.
RHS Garden Hyde Hall
RHS Garden Hyde Hall also offers £1 admission under the scheme.
RHS Garden Rosemoor
RHS Garden Rosemoor in Devon participates in the £1 scheme.
RHS Garden Wisley
RHS Garden Wisley also offers £1 admission.
The current booking information states that the maximum group size is six people, including the benefit recipient.
£1 Cadw Attractions in Wales
Cadw offers £1 Universal Credit tickets at its staffed visitor attractions across Wales.

Caerphilly Castle
Caerphilly Castle participates in the Cadw £1 ticket scheme.
Chepstow Castle
Chepstow Castle also lists the Cadw £1 ticket for people receiving Universal Credit and other named benefits.
Beaumaris Castle
The £1 benefit ticket is available for admission to Beaumaris Castle.
Harlech Castle
Harlech Castle is another participating Cadw attraction.
Tintern Abbey
Visitors receiving Universal Credit and other qualifying benefits can also access the £1 ticket offer at Tintern Abbey.
Importantly, Cadw states that the £1 tickets need to be booked through its website rather than purchased at visitor centres. You can learn more about the £1 Cadw tickets program on their website.
£3 HMS Belfast Tickets
UK residents receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit and other named benefits can visit HMS Belfast for £3 per person. Up to five members of the same household can receive the discounted admission.
Tickets are available online rather than at the attraction, and visitors need to bring proof of their qualifying benefit.
£3 IWM Duxford Tickets
IWM Duxford also participates in Imperial War Museums’ discounted benefits ticket scheme. £3 tickets are available to visitors receiving Universal Credit and other named benefits, with up to five discounted tickets available per household.
The tickets must be booked online and proof of eligibility is required when visiting.
Discounted London Zoo Tickets
London Zoo offers reduced-price tickets specifically for people receiving Universal Credit and certain other benefits. You can book discounted tickets for up to six people living at the same address. Children under three visit free and do not need a ticket.
The discounted tickets need to be purchased online in advance and are subject to availability. The current scheme advertises Universal Credit tickets from as little as £3 per person, although the exact price can depend on the booking.
Discounted Whipsnade Zoo Tickets
Whipsnade Zoo is operated by ZSL alongside London Zoo and also offers discounted Universal Credit admission.
It is worth checking both zoos if you’re flexible about where you visit, particularly for families based outside central London.
Discounted Edinburgh Zoo Tickets
Edinburgh Zoo has reduced-price admission for visitors receiving Universal Credit and a selection of other qualifying benefits. At the time of writing, the 2026 booking system is showing Universal Credit daytime tickets at £8 per person, although prices can change.
Up to six tickets can be included in one booking and everyone must be from the same household.
Proof of eligibility and named identification are required when you visit.
Discounted Highland Wildlife Park Tickets
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland also operates Highland Wildlife Park. Like Edinburgh Zoo, it has offered reduced admission for people receiving Universal Credit and other qualifying benefits.
This makes it worth checking if you’re visiting the Scottish Highlands and looking for a lower-cost family attraction.

£2 Horniman Museum Attraction Tickets
General admission to the Horniman Museum and Gardens is free, but some additional attractions normally charge admission. People receiving Universal Credit and certain other benefits can purchase up to four £2 tickets per paid attraction.
These can include:
- Horniman Aquarium
- Butterfly House
- Temporary Family Exhibitions
- Voyage to the Deep
Universal Credit tickets can be purchased online for some attractions and at the ticket desk for others.
This could make the Horniman an especially affordable full day out because you can combine the free museum and gardens with one discounted paid experience.
Discounted Science Museum Experiences
The Science Museum itself has free general admission. However, some additional experiences require separate tickets.
Discounted Universal Credit tickets are available for attractions including:
Wonderlab
Adult Universal Credit tickets are currently £5, with children’s tickets discounted further during the 2026 summer savings period.
Up to five people per household can use the discounted ticket scheme.
Power Up
The Science Museum’s interactive gaming experience Power Up also has discounted Universal Credit tickets, currently £5 for adults with a lower children’s price during the summer 2026 promotion.
IMAX
Selected IMAX documentaries also have discounted £5 tickets for visitors receiving Universal Credit or other qualifying benefits.
WWT Wetland Centres
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust operates several wetland centres around the UK and offers reduced-price tickets for people receiving Universal Credit and other specified benefits.
At WWT Martin Mere, for example, tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children, with children under three visiting free.
Up to six people from the same address can use the offer, although no more than three adults can be included in one group. The discounted tickets must be booked online before visiting. WWT confirms that reduced Universal Credit tickets are available across its wetland centres, so it is worth checking your nearest centre individually.
Potential locations to check include WWT Martin Mere, WWT London Wetland Centre, WWT Arundel and other WWT centres around the UK.
Discounted Eden Project Tickets
The Eden Project offers a limited number of discounted day tickets for visitors receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit or qualifying legacy benefits. During the 2026 summer period, the Universal Credit adult ticket starts from £13.13, with children’s tickets from £6.56 as part of the temporary Great British Summer Savings VAT reduction.
Outside the summer promotion, prices may be different, so it’s important to check before booking.
York Castle Museum
York Castle Museum has offered free admission to visitors receiving qualifying means-tested benefits. You can learn more about the free admission to York Castle Museum as part of the Universal Credit days out scheme on this information page.
National Railway Museum
The National Railway Museum in York is free to visit, so you don’t need to receive Universal Credit to get free admission.
There may be charges for certain special experiences and events.
Free Museums in London
Some of London’s best attractions are completely free and don’t require any proof of Universal Credit.
These include the:
- British Museum
- Natural History Museum
- Science Museum
- Victoria and Albert Museum
- National Gallery
- Tate Modern
- Tate Britain
- National Maritime Museum
Combining a free museum with one of London’s £1 attractions can make a normally expensive day in the capital much more affordable. For example, you could visit the Science Museum for free and add a £1 visit to Kensington Palace, depending on ticket availability.
Free Carer and Companion Tickets
Families receiving Universal Credit may be able to make further savings if someone in the group is disabled. Many UK attractions offer free admission to an accompanying carer or essential companion.
The eligibility rules for these tickets are separate from Universal Credit schemes, so check the individual attraction’s accessibility policy. At some venues, a disabled visitor receiving Universal Credit may be able to purchase their discounted ticket while an accompanying essential companion enters free. For example, RHS gardens state that one carer or companion can enter free for a visitor whose disability necessitates a carer.
What Proof of Universal Credit Do I Need?
The proof of Universal Credit for the Universal Credit days out varies between attractions.
You may be asked to show:
- A recent Universal Credit statement
- Your online Universal Credit account
- A benefits entitlement letter
- Photo identification
Some attractions require both proof of your benefit and identification matching the name on the booking. Don’t rely on being able to buy the ticket online without providing proof when you arrive.
Can I Get Universal Credit Days Out Discounts for My Whole Family?
Often, yes, but the rules vary considerably on how many people can benefit from the Universal Credit days out.
- Historic Royal Palaces allows up to four £1 tickets per household.
- The Royal Collection Trust allows up to six £1 tickets per household.
- London Zoo allows discounted tickets for up to six people living at the same address.
- WWT Martin Mere allows up to six people living at the same address, with a maximum of three adults.
Always check the specific rules before booking.
Do Universal Credit Tickets Need to Be Booked in Advance?
Many do. Some of the cheapest tickets for Universal Credit days out have limited availability and may sell out during weekends and school holidays.
- The Royal Collection Trust recommends booking its £1 tickets in advance and does not offer walk-up £1 tickets.
- London Zoo requires its Universal Credit tickets to be purchased online in advance.
- Cadw’s £1 tickets also need to be booked online rather than purchased from its visitor centres.
- HMS Belfast and IWM Duxford benefit tickets are online-only.

London is probably the strongest destination in the UK for Universal Credit attraction discounts.

Universal Credit Days Out in Scotland
Universal Credit days out discounts worth checking in Scotland include:
- Palace of Holyroodhouse
- The King’s Gallery, Edinburgh
- Edinburgh Zoo
- Highland Wildlife Park
There are also numerous free museums and galleries across Scotland, including many National Museums Scotland venues.
Universal Credit Days Out in Wales
The Cadw £1 ticket scheme makes Wales particularly good for cheap historical days out. Rather than offering a discount at just one attraction, the scheme covers staffed Cadw visitor attractions across the country. This potentially gives families access to numerous castles, abbeys and historic sites for £1 admission.
Universal Credit Days Out in Northern Ireland
One particularly good offer in Northern Ireland is Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, which is part of Historic Royal Palaces’ £1 ticket scheme.
I would like to see more attractions in Northern Ireland introduce similar schemes, as there are currently fewer widely advertised Universal Credit days out discounts in Northern Ireland than in England, Scotland and Wales.

Some also require photo identification. Check what evidence is accepted before travelling, as you may still need to prove your eligibility even if you have already booked your tickets online.
Receiving Universal Credit doesn’t automatically mean that family days out have to be out of reach. There are now some genuinely excellent discounts available, including £1 entry to royal palaces, castles, historic attractions and gardens, alongside reduced tickets for zoos, museums and wildlife attractions.
The biggest challenge is that there is no single nationwide Universal Credit days out scheme. Every organisation sets its own rules, and the benefits accepted, number of family members covered and evidence required can all be different.
My advice is to always look for a section called “Universal Credit tickets”, “community access”, “concession tickets” or “£1 tickets” before paying the standard admission price.
