Sri Racha is often overlooked by travellers heading straight to Pattaya or Bangkok, but that is exactly what makes it appealing. This coastal town on Thailand’s eastern seaboard has a slower, more residential feel and is commonly visited from Laem Chabang cruise port. It is not a high-energy beach resort packed with nightlife. Instead, it offers parks, waterfront walks, family-friendly apartments and easy access to nearby islands and attractions.
For families travelling with autistic children, that calmer atmosphere can make a real difference. Sri Racha feels manageable. Distances are short, crowds are lighter than in major tourist hotspots and there are enough practical facilities to make daily life easier. Whether you are visiting for a port day or staying a few nights, here is everything you need to know.
Getting To Sri Racha
Sri Racha sits between Pattaya and Chonburi and is most commonly visited from Bangkok or Laem Chabang cruise port.
If you are flying in, the nearest airport is Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. From there you have several options.
- A private transfer is the simplest and most comfortable choice, especially with children.
- Taxis are readily available at the official airport taxi rank and the journey usually takes around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic.
- Ride-hailing apps such as Grab also operate in the area.
- You can also travel by bus from the airport transportation centre to Sri Racha, though this may involve a change and is less convenient with luggage.

If you are arriving by cruise ship into Laem Chabang Port, Sri Racha is only around 20 to 30 minutes away by car. You can:
- Take a pre-booked private driver.
- A taxi from the port area.
- Use a ride-hailing app to arrange a ride (I recommend Bolt).
- Arrange an excursion through your cruise line.
Some ships offer shuttle buses into nearby towns, but Sri Racha is usually easiest reached by taxi or organised transfer. We used Bolt to arrange a private ride to Sri Racha.

From central Bangkok, you can also travel by intercity bus from Ekkamai Bus Terminal or by train from Hua Lamphong, though trains are slower and less frequent. For families, particularly those travelling with autistic children, private transfers are by far the most straightforward option. I have personally taken the bus from Ekkamai Bus Terminal and also taken a car from the cruise port. Both were easy and reasonably priced.
Where To Stay in Sri Racha
Sri Racha is known for its relaxed, residential feel and has a strong Japanese community, which means many hotels are apartment-style and well suited to families staying longer.
Citadines Grand Central Sri Racha is a popular choice and somewhere I stayed back in 2017 for a few days with my family. We had an apartment-style room with a kitchenette and separate living space, which made a huge difference when travelling with children.
Citadines Grand Sri Racha:

Having space to spread out, prepare simple meals and retreat for quiet time felt far more manageable than a standard hotel room. A huge hit with my son was the rooftop pool – the views were lovely.
Cape Racha Hotel is another well-known family-friendly option. It offers spacious suites, a swimming pool and an on-site restaurant, and is centrally located near Robinson Lifestyle mall and the waterfront. It works well for families who want comfort but still be within walking distance of shops and parks.
Oakwood Hotel and Residence Sri Racha is also worth considering, particularly for longer stays. It has larger rooms and residences, a pool and family-friendly facilities. Many of these apartment-style hotels provide more predictable, calm environments compared to busy beach resorts elsewhere in Thailand.
On my most recent visit, I was stopping in Sri Racha as part of a cruise itinerary and returned to the ship at the end of the day. If you are visiting from Laem Chabang, staying onboard is often the simplest option, but if you have the time, Sri Racha works well as a short, relaxed family base.
Family-Friendly Activities in Sri Racha
Koh Loi
Koh Loi is a small island connected to the mainland by a bridge and is one of the easiest places to explore with children. There is a Chinese temple, open space to walk around and sea views back towards the coast. It feels calm compared to larger tourist areas and is ideal for a gentle wander.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo
Around 30 minutes from Sri Racha, Khao Kheow Open Zoo is one of the region’s biggest attractions. It is spread out over a large area, so hiring a golf cart can make it easier with children. The zoo focuses on spacious enclosures and offers opportunities to see animals in more natural surroundings.
Space Inspirium
Space Inspirium is an interactive science and space museum that is often overlooked by visitors. It has hands-on exhibits, educational displays and a quieter, indoor environment which can be helpful if you need a break from heat or crowds.
Robinson Lifestyle Sri Racha
Robinson Lifestyle mall is a central hub in Sri Racha. It has restaurants, cafés, a supermarket and indoor play areas. For families, especially those who need routine or familiar food options, having a mall nearby can make a day far less stressful.
Harborland at Robinsons mall
HarborLand Sri Racha is a large indoor playground located inside Robinson Lifestyle mall and is one of the best options in the area if you need a contained, air-conditioned space for children to play. It features soft play zones, climbing frames, slides, ball pits and obstacle-style activities designed for different age groups. For families with autistic children, it can be a useful reset space, especially during the heat of the day, although it can get busy and noisy at peak times. Visiting earlier in the day or on weekdays tends to be quieter. There is also seating for parents nearby and easy access to food, toilets and shops within the mall, which makes it a practical and predictable stop during your day in Sri Racha.
Harborland at Tukcom mall
HarborLand at Tukcom Sriracha is one of the largest indoor play centres in the area and a popular stop for families visiting from Laem Chabang or staying locally. It is set across a large indoor space with soft play zones, climbing structures, slides, ball pits and obstacle-style courses designed for different ages.

Compared to smaller play areas, it feels more like a full activity centre, so children can spend a good amount of time there rather than it being a quick stop. For families with autistic children, it can be a helpful option when you need a contained environment with clear boundaries, although it can become loud and busy, particularly at weekends and during school holidays. Visiting earlier in the day usually gives you a quieter experience, and being inside Tukcom also means you have easy access to food, toilets and a familiar indoor setting if you need to take breaks.
Sriracha Tiger Zoo Site
Although the original Sriracha Tiger Zoo has permanently closed, the site remains a known landmark in the area. If you are researching older guides, it is important to note that this attraction is no longer operating.
Ko Sichang
From the pier near Koh Loi, you can take a ferry to Ko Sichang. The island is quieter than many Thai islands and has beaches, viewpoints and royal summer palace grounds. It can make a lovely day trip if you want something slower paced than Pattaya.
Sri Racha Public Park
Sri Racha Public Park sits along the waterfront and offers green space, playground equipment and sea views. It is a good place for children to run around and for families to decompress after a busy morning.
Getting Around Sri Racha With Autistic Children
Sri Racha is relatively compact and many central attractions are within short driving distances. Taxis and Bolt are widely available and inexpensive compared to Western countries. Having a private car for the day can reduce uncertainty and waiting times, which is often key when travelling with autistic children.
Pavements can be uneven in places, and road crossings are not always clearly marked, so holding hands and planning routes in advance helps. Traffic is lighter than in Bangkok or Pattaya, which makes it feel less chaotic overall.
Is Sri Racha Autism-Friendly?
Sri Racha is not specifically marketed as autism-friendly, but its slower pace compared to nearby Pattaya can make it more manageable. It feels more residential than resort-focused, which often means fewer loud nightlife areas and less sensory overload.
Things That Make Sri Racha Stand Out
- What makes Sri Racha stand out is its balance. It is close enough to major attractions like Pattaya and Bangkok, yet calm enough to retreat from them.
- There are parks, quiet waterfront spaces and apartment-style accommodation that suits families who need structure and space.
- For cruise passengers, it offers a gentler alternative to busier excursions. For families staying longer, it provides a practical, liveable base on Thailand’s eastern coast.
Tips for a Smooth Experience
- Plan Ahead: Research each location and contact them to discuss any special accommodations your child might need. If you can plan to arrive after check-in time you should, or try to arrange an early check-in. Head to our Thailand travel hub for all of our Thailand guides and autism-friendly recommendations.
- Sensory Tools: Bring along sensory tools and comfort items that help manage sensory needs, such as noise-cancelling headphones, sensory toys, and a sensory toolkit.
- Clear Communication: Ensure that everyone involved in the trip understands the needs and preferences of the neurodiverse individual. Clear communication can prevent misunderstandings and enhance the travel experience. Consider using PECS or an AAC. Most suitably, I have created a pack of Thailand PECS that you may find helpful during your trip. We also have a free pack of travel PECS available for download. You may find our bumper pack of travel PECS helpful.
- Safety: Consider getting an autism card for your child, or even better – use our emergency passport for medical information and important contacts. Our absolute must have safety item for travelling with an autistic child is a TinyTags wristband or tag that can be tapped or scanned by a mobile phone – giving the person who tapped it all of the information they need to get your child back to you. TinyTags also feature a location alert to help you find your child.
